Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 August 2026

This policy explains what personal data we process through the Splitgeld mobile app and splitgeld.com, why we process it, and what rights you have over that data.

Who is responsible

The operator of the Splitgeld app is the data controller. For any privacy-related request, write to info@splitgeld.com.

Data we collect

Account details: your name, e-mail address, an irreversible hash of your password, and your profile photo if you set one. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and e-mail address from that provider.

App content: the groups you create, the expenses and amounts you enter, how they are split, the settlements you record, comments, and any receipt images you upload.

Age verification: your date of birth, which we ask for once when you complete your profile so we can confirm you meet the minimum age. We store the date itself and no copy of any document.

Technical data: a device notification token (Expo push token) so we can send notifications, your language preference, and your subscription status.

We do not collect location data, advertising identifiers, or your contacts.

Why we process it

To create your account and keep you signed in, to calculate balances within your groups, to send notifications and e-mails about expenses and settlements, to verify a premium subscription, and to prevent abuse. The legal basis for this processing is the performance of our contract with you.

Your date of birth is used only to check that you meet the minimum age. The legal basis is our legal obligation to obtain valid consent from people old enough to give it.

If you tick the optional marketing box, we also send occasional e-mails about new features and offers on Splitgeld Premium. That is the one thing here that runs on your consent rather than the contract, and you can withdraw it at any time without affecting anything else. What it covers, and how to stop it, is set out on our Marketing Communications Consent page.

Who we share it with

When you join a group, your name, profile photo, and your expenses, splits and settlements in that group are visible to the other members of it.

The providers we rely on to run the service: application server and database hosting, Cloudflare R2 for image storage, Expo Push for notifications, RevenueCat and Apple for subscription management, and our e-mail delivery provider. These providers process the data only on our behalf and only to deliver this service.

We do not sell or rent your data to third parties for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, your name, e-mail address, password, profile photo, and notification token are permanently deleted or made unidentifiable.

Expense and settlement records in shared groups remain in those groups so that other members' balances are not corrupted; in those records you appear as "Deleted user". They are kept so other people retain access to their own financial history.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, and delete your data, and to object to its processing. You can delete your account directly in the app from the Profile screen using "Delete my account". For any other request, write to info@splitgeld.com.

Children's privacy

Splitgeld requires you to be at least 16. We ask for your date of birth once during sign-up and refuse accounts below that age.

Article 8 of the GDPR lets each member state set the age of digital consent anywhere between 13 and 16. We apply 16 everywhere rather than varying it by country, so the rule is the same wherever you are.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone below that age, we delete it. If you believe a child has created one, write to info@splitgeld.com.

Changes

When we update this policy the date on this page changes; for significant changes we also notify you inside the app.
